This session will teach participants about how to build connection quickly each day - which is a preventative technique to getting kids to listen well.
Early childcare providers play a key role in supporting sensory development! This FREE presentation, presented by Emily Reynolds, MSOTR, offers the knowledge and tools to help foster sensory growth in young children.
In this final STEAM session, educators will explore how to incorporate early alphabet and print awareness skills with STEAM-based, hands-on challenges that foster critical thinking and problem-solving.

In this second session, participants will explore ways to enhance vocabulary development by integrating STEAM and literacy activities and through the use of STEAM based children's literature, helping children make connections between language and real-world concepts.
Children learn through play. And sometimes children need training on how to play. Our role as educators is to meet all children where they are to help support their growth in all areas of their lives. However, play is something that some of us have not had specific training on. This session will train teachers on the continuum of play and how we, as adults, can train children to improve their play and expand their learning. Come ready to have fun and learn all about play in this session!
This session is virtual only.
In this engaging 3-part workshop series, early childhood educators will learn how to seamlessly blend Science of Reading principles with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) concepts to enhance literacy development in children ages 2-5. In this first session, educators will discover how to build oral language skills and phonemic awareness through sensory-rich, hands-on activities using simple STEAM projects that promote conversation, sound identification, rhyme recognition, and syllable segmentation.
Being a part of a licensed or regulated program means that you have to follow the rules. However, what happens when early care educators shift from the what to the why and understand the value in licensing rules and regulations?
”Play” by the Rules takes a look at what educators already know through a fun game of jeopardy, while also emphasizing the reason behind frequently overlooked rules. Educators will walk away understanding why certain rules are in place and how looking at them as an advantage supports prioritizing the health and safety of the children in their care.
This session will show participants how to use the Behavioral Incident Report (BIRS) and additional tools to measure and address behavior.
The Behavioral Incident System (BIRS) is a simple data tool to document serious behaviors. When we want to change a behavior in the classroom, we collect information about the action and moments surrounding it to determine the most effective way to guide change. Together, we will explore this tool along with other data collection methods that have been shown to have positive impact.

In today’s education settings, managing challenging behaviors while fostering inclusion is crucial. Join us for a transformative session on restorative practices, designed to equip leaders in early childcare, schools, and after-school programs. You'll learn practical tools to reduce behaviors, build positive relationships, and create a sense of belonging. Gain actionable strategies and connect with a community of leaders committed to growth and inclusion. A light breakfast and lunch will be served both days. Let's build a brighter future together!
This is a 2 day session, taking place on November 11th and 12th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
This session is a continuation of BY5's Challenging Behaviors Part 1 event. In this session, we will identify different types of behaviors and participants will practice different scenarios.
This session is in-person only.
Behavior communicates needs, and distinguishing between developmentally appropriate actions and deeper issues is crucial. This hybrid session, available both on Zoom and in-person and facilitated by Dr. Beth Trammell, will help teachers identify and manage challenging behaviors while minimizing problems, whether they're typical or more serious. We'll also explore evidence-based strategies for circle time and transitions, focusing on age-appropriate practices to reduce behavior issues. Attendees will learn practical techniques, practice them, and receive feedback, equipping them to enhance classroom management with ease.
Part 2 of this session will take place on October 22nd.
Getting kids to listen is crucial in the classroom, and building strong connections daily is a key preventive technique. This session will teach you how to quickly establish these connections, making it easier to guide students through routines and expectations. Additionally, you'll learn a powerful tool where students listen and respond to your words—by mastering Effective Instruction Delivery (EID), high-probability commands, and behavior momentum. By combining these strategies, you can enhance classroom management and create an environment where students are engaged and responsive.

The "Zones of Regulation" is a curriculum designed to help children with their emotional regulation. It teaches children to categorize emotions into colors. Tools are then provided to help them handle the emotions that occur in those colors. These tools are both preventative and for use in the moment. This curriculum is appropriate for all children, whether they have special needs or not. We will go over how to implement this curriculum in order to help children process emotions in a healthy way in their classroom.
Often, little attention is given or acknowledged to many educators who may experience trauma. When any forms of trauma are disregarded, educators suffer silently and may leave the field of education that they love to do. As a result, students may lose out on the high-powered, effective, and influential impact these individuals could have made on their lives. Families lose out on home-school partnerships, leaving schools with deficient qualified teachers. Creating a trauma-informed approach that includes educators must be considered and enacted for the well-being of all parties involved.
This professional development will honor educators by allowing time and space to examine several areas of trauma and how it may affect their practice, families, and the school environment. Educators will be given time to share true feelings in a space of comfort, peace, and understanding while practicing tools and sharing giveaways for application.

It can be tricky sometimes to talk with parents in our role. We know parenting is a hard job and we also know that our families are always doing their best. But what happens when it seems like a family just doesn’t want to partner with you as a teacher? What happens when you unintentionally get frustrated with a parent for their reaction to a challenging day in the classroom with their child? Communicating effectively with parents can be more complicated than perhaps you thought it would be. Taken further, our conflicting beliefs about how to help support parents, while also letting them know some challenging feedback. This session will focus on specific ways to build relationships with parents quickly, as well as share ideas with one another about ways to connect with both the easiest and most distant families.

Behavior is all about communication. It tells us something may not be okay. However, biting, running, throwing, and hitting are all developmentally appropriate - in some children in some environments. This session will help teachers recognize the difference between developmentally appropriate challenging behavior and that which might be a sign of a deeper issue. We will also discuss specific ways to minimize problem behavior regardless of its origin (either developmentally appropriate or something deeper).

There is a science to creating routines to increase our connection with the students, as well as they engagement in the classroom. Beyond that, having effective routines can do great things for classroom and behavior management. This session will teach the science of routine-building, as well as having participants practice applying the science to their “big” and “small” routines in the classroom.
