Promoting Literacy with
Community Partners

Book donations are one way BY5 works to meet and exceed its mission of improving early childhood education throughout Delaware County. In addition to Little Free Libraries, BY5 distributes books through various community partnerships.

One of these community partnerships is Book Patrol. The program started in 2017 with a partnership with the Daleville Police Department to connect kids with local police officers; in 2018, the program expanded to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, too.

BY5 donates crates of books that are placed in the back of police cars, so police officers can easily hand out books to children on their patrol routes. Through Book Patrol, BY5 helps to promote literacy among all ages throughout the community, all while connecting community members with their local police officers.

BY5 has also long provided books to Open Door Health Services, where books are given to patients at their well-child visits and at special events like Open Door’s community holiday party.
